How does FillPal work out what each person pays?

Every drive gets an estimate of the fuel it used, based on your car’s official consumption figures and how much of the drive was in town or on the highway.

Each fill-up records what was actually paid. When someone fills the tank to full, FillPal takes everything the group spent on fuel since the last full tank and divides it by how much each person drove. The Balance tab then shows who owes whom.

Does FillPal track me when I’m not driving?

No. FillPal records your location only while a drive is recording, from the moment you tap Start drive until you tap End drive. It never starts a drive by itself. With the app open, the map shows where you are, but no drive is recorded.

What does “Filled to full” do?

Turn it on when you log a fill-up where you filled the tank all the way. That closes the current period for the whole group. FillPal splits the fuel bought since the last full tank, and everyone sees what they owe or are owed.

You don’t have to fill to full every time. The split is most accurate between two full tanks, because then FillPal knows exactly how much fuel the drives used.

Closed it by mistake? The person who logged that fill-up can undo it, as long as no payment from that period has been marked yet.

Why is my share different from what I paid at the pump?

What you pay at the pump buys fuel for the whole group. Your share depends on how much you drove. If you filled up and drove a little, the others owe you. If you drove a lot and someone else filled up, you owe them. The Balance tab shows what you owe and what you’re owed.

How do I settle up with someone?

FillPal doesn’t move money. Pay the person however you like, then open the Balance tab, tap their name and tap I paid. They get a notification and tap Confirm once the money arrives.

If someone paid you in cash, tap their name and tap Mark received. When several people owe each other, Settle up combines the payments so fewer of them are needed.

I forgot to record a drive. Can I add it later?

Yes. Open your trip history from the bottom of the Drive tab and tap Add past trip. Enter where you started and where you ended, pick the route you took, and set the date and time. FillPal works out the distance and the fuel from the route.

You can add trips back to the last full tank. Anything earlier belongs to a period that has already been split.

What does the missed-drive warning mean?

A drive usually starts where the last one ended. When one starts somewhere else, a drive in between was probably never recorded, and FillPal shows a warning at the top of the screen. Tap it to see where the gap is, then add the missing drive with Add past trip.

Who can see my routes?

Only you, unless you choose otherwise. Other members see the distance and cost of your drives but not the map. To show them your routes, turn on Share my trips with group members in Settings, under Privacy. Routes are stored encrypted.

What happens if I leave a group?

Open Manage groups, pick the group and tap Leave group. The group’s owner approves the request. If they don’t answer, it goes through by itself after 7 days.

Your past drives and fill-ups stay in the group, so nobody else’s balance changes. Money still open between you and the group doesn’t leave with you. Before you confirm, the app shows how much that is, so it’s worth settling up first.

If you own the group, you pick who takes it over. If you’re the only member, leaving deletes the group.

How do shared car expenses work?

Insurance, repairs, a car wash: anything the group shares besides fuel. On the Car tab, tap Add expense and enter the amount, who paid and who shares it. FillPal splits it evenly. Each person’s part shows up on the Balance tab, where it’s settled just like fuel.

Only the person who added an expense can change or delete it, and only until someone has paid their part.

What does Pro add, and what is Family?

FillPal is free for one group and one car. Pro removes the ads, lets you be in more than one group and add a car to each group you run, and unlocks profile styles and the Pro app icon.

Pro belongs to you, not to a group. Family is Pro for up to 6 people, you included. Add people from your groups, or send them a code.

Can I use FillPal in my own country and currency?

FillPal works in Israel, the United States, every EU country, the UK, Switzerland, Norway and Iceland. Each group has its own country and currency, chosen when the group is created. Units belong to each person, so one member can see kilometres and litres while another sees miles and gallons. Change yours in Settings, under Preferences.

FillPal never converts between currencies. A group’s currency can be changed until its first fill-up, expense or payment.

How do I delete my account and data?

Open the menu, tap Account, then Delete account. To keep a copy first, tap Export my data on the same screen.

Groups where you were the only member are deleted with everything in them. In groups you shared, your drives and payments stay under the name “Deleted user” so the others’ balances don’t change, and your routes are removed. More on what gets deleted.
